So many sites in the Art category promise so much. In reality one gets so little. A few of the contemporary art sites are okay but really if you want to buy commercial art by reputable artists there is barely a site that can cope. If anyone knows of any serious art sites please let me know. The web seems to be a place for artists who never made it and I am so sick of seeing bad art. Check out www.art-connection.com this is the sort off site, easy to use and loads of pictures from different centuries and schools. Look forward to hearing about some great sites.

There is one art web site spending a lot of money on advertising their site in the popular magazines, both weeklies and monthlies. From what I saw on the web site they are discriminating about who they take on.

There is an 'Artist's Directory' in the back of the December 1999 issue of Artnews magazine that has web site URLs for the advertisers that I found very worthwhile looking at

Have you tried GUILD.COM ? It is marketing itself in all the major USA art magazines as well as the usual popular weekly magazines.

I checked it out - it seems to be mostly high-end crafts and artisan-type work, not fine art.

I have the same experience, but very slowly my site get more visitors. A suggestion is to visite much art pages and drop your url there. And get links on other artist pages, build your network. And on the net it is like in the real world, so art is not the thing that gets the most attention. succes. Gerlinde. http://www.telebyte.nl/~gerlinde

The originator of this thread seemed to be looking for just this sort of 'commercial art' site. Just trying to be helpful. I realize it is not 'great art' but their ads do say they show artists 'by invitation only' implying some sort of discriminatory process of selection. I agree with your statement entirely. But then again Fine Art like All Art is what someone subjectively decides it to be, don't you think?

I saw a wwek ago a nice art side of a german artist. Perhaps you will like it. WWW.brill-art.de This artist is kindly and he will answer you direktly on all questions. Myself I´ve a small galerie in Barcelona and in Schaffhausen. My site is in German too; but perhaps you would like it also. www.eurantiquites.ch . If you would tell me 'what' expecially you search for, let me know, perhaps I can give you some more informations. Greetings Lothar Winands
