Yes, anyone who has not heard of Richard Schmid must have their head in the sand. He is a wonderful artist. Read his latest book: 'Alla Prima, Everything I know about painting'

Your work is gorgeous!

I too intend in time to do some stilllifes. AS an art teacher I have my students do them, and I do frequent demos.

I really love your work. My time was not wasted!

My conversion to plein air....or painting from life, though sparked by Schmid's work has been a conversion FROM what I formerly did and was obsessed by...to discovering new things about myself as a painter. My interest was not so much then to paint like Schmid...though I would love a workshop with him. His work caused a metamorphosis in me to give myself permission for change.

I have landscapes that can be seen at Art-Agent.com...and will give you my page here directly that shows about 15 of the works. Other than that...I have 'how to' lessons in oil and acrylic on WetCanvas.Com that show the stages of mine in painting sessions. That might better show the progression I am going.

If I were fortunate....I would prefer to have a group of painters that I could paint with, and be part of a small society.

I love your expressive brushwork. It is my pleasure to exchange thoughts here with you. Though your stilllifes are wonderful, my favorite is your farming scene. See....I guess I'm hooked on the outdoors! <smile>

peace,

Thanks for all the compliments. I also enjoy a little plein air painting now and then, but I usually end up in the studio with a still life set up or a model. It is not a lot different as long as you have something real to look at, but I have to admit that my studio is usually more comfortable. <g> I have never had the good fortune to study with Richard Schmid either, but I have studied his books. I think he has had a hugh influence on many artists. I saw his 1989 show and it was a turning point for me. I enjoyed your demo on Wetcanvas and seeing all your work. Very good work, maybe I will see originals one day. Are you familiar with Kevin MacPherson? He is or was president of Plein Air Painters of America and a very good artist from New Mexico. He has a relatively new book titled 'Fill your oil paintings with light and color'. Happy painting! Jean
