BOOKS and MOVIES about ARTISTS/ARTWORK (????) :

Once upon a time somebody ehhh... posted a brief list of movies/books worth seeing/reading. Not bad idea!

For example, in 'alt.surrealism' newsgroup - people sometimes post these lists too - it helps to keep track of things done in surrealism or about it.

I wonder if we can compile such list regarding ART.

I love this idea! But I would go one further, Occassionally there is a really worthwhile series or show on TV that has to do with art, but I seldom watch TV anymore and would love a head's up when a good one is coming up. Back when I did watch, I often taped them and am now going through old tapes while I'm in the studio painting. (I don't consider this distracting, though many might.)

I also don't mind fiction about artists if it's well researched and written. I enjoyed 'Girl with a Pearl Earring' by Tracy Chevalier and 'Girl in Hyacinth Blue' by Susan Vreeland, both giving an interesting look into the life of Vermeer.

The problem I see with such a list for TV is that there is such a mix of people from different countries posting here. You'd have to have a different list for each. Same thing applies to periodicals. Movies are more universally distributed, but VCR or CD versions may not be.

Simple matter of ignoring that which doesn't interest or pertain to you. It's done by many of us who prefer to seek useful information rather than personal attacks and other garbage posts.

THAT IS WHY I emphasized: BOOKS and MOVIES (!!!),

[books written or translated in English] [movies produced, dubbed or subtitled in English]

TV is altogether ANOTHER STORY, and it would be just impossible to make more or less decent list of programs and documentary films - too much material, too scattered in time, most of it unaccessible and run only on occassion, and virtually impossible to obtain (as tape or disk) by an individual ...

There are, of course, special videos released and available for sale via interenet stores, but those are of special interest ... anyone interested in some artist/art can find and order necessary video tapes easily...

Periodicals are easier to get, but list of main ones is small and and every person can get own list of necessary periodicals for himself - just in few minutes...

-= BOOKS (fiction) and MOVIES : (????)
