I don't recall one that was truly satisfactory.

Didn't much care for Divertimento(the short version of La Belle Nosy), Lust for Life, Van Gogh, Vincent and Theo, Basket, Frida(older

Could you explain what you mean by 'satisfactory'? That's such a nebulous and highly subjective term.

'The Horse's Mouth' and 'Andrei Rublev' are my favorites. There's also 'Pollock', though I personally found it rather dull.

Ahhh, I forgot about 'Andrei Rublev'. That was a cool film. OTOH, the best part of 'Pollock' was that it was significantly shorter than the book...

There was Ken Russel's 'Savage Messiah' , about the sculptor Henri Gaudier. As for it being satisfactory or not , I remember being quite satisfied with Helen Mirren walking down a flight of stairs.......

Well yes, it's entirely satisfactory. Of course, there's Andrei Rublev which I forgot to mention which is truly great.

And, I've heard good things about Mystery of Picasso and Guernica, both documentaries which I haven't seen. I believe the latter is by Chris Marker.

Most biopics about painters, however, tend to be middle-brow kitsch. Think of Agony and the Ecstasy. I remember the agony but little in terms of ecstasy.

Didn't see Pollock. Was that good?
