[What's unusual about her? If the paintings feature classical imagery in a somewhat garish (but witty) modern style, you might be thinking of M. Louise Stanley. She's a fairly well known artist on the West Coast, based in Emeryville, CA. I think she teaches painting at one of the local colleges. See http://www.artist-at-large.com/mlstanley.htm for an interview, along with some pictures of her work.]

Maybe Dr. Selig could share some of his or her paintings for you . Lori has quite a few paintings out there. She probably painted well over a hundred or so . Some very large!

Dr Selig,

I met Lori Stanley back in 1968. I was stationed at Castle Air Force Base. She use to model for me. I was a serious amateur photographer. I almost immediately fell in love with her. She was beautiful in body and in spirit. I was discharge from the Air Force and went back to Michigan. I took Lori with me. Unfortunately, she could not adapt to the change of life style and I had to send her home. I had to stay in Michigan due to a family tragedy.

Lori's art was fabulous. I took her and her work to different Art dealers and showed them her work. At the time her work was somewhat bazaar and erotic in nature, but you could see she was extremely talented.

I have many portraits of Lori, but the one that strikes me the most is of her leaning against a tomb stone in Hornetas, Ca.

I learned of her death one year after it happened. It was the first time I had tried to contact her since we separated.
I was devastated

She seemed to have been an interesting person. Does anyone know the circumstances of her death? She committed suicide I read but I wonder what were the conditions she was living in at that time.

I own one of Lori's paintings. Fell in love with it
the moment I saw it. Lori was represented by a
broker, Monica Briese for a short period of time.
She brought canvasses of Lori's work to Sedona, AZ
where I live. Then heard about Lori's death, and Monica moved back to California. I'd like to know
if anyone is doing current appraisals of her work?

does anyone know if Lori used anything besides oil in her paintings??? I have 8 that I bought from art dealers in Sedona between '94 and '96 that I am trying to have restored due to salt air damage from being in Hawaii for 14 years....they were not coated in lacquer as I'm told oils should be and the black wipes off with gentle water cleaning which an artist friend doing the repair thinks might be due to Lori using black tempera to draw the images, then the oils to color them... I want to preserve this beautiful work but need to know what we are working with.....I would be happy to share photos of those I have if someone can tell me how to post stuff since I only know how to email...computer illiterate!

On the upper right corner there's a button for 'my actions' Push it and you'll find 'upload pictures'. It should be very easy as long as the pics resolution is low.

Gloria, I was told she used acrylic not oil. I will double check on that for you!

Does anyone know if this is Lori Lee Stanley, who wrote 'The cancan: its origin, development and its relationship to French-themed revues in Las Vegas' at University of California, Irvine in 1990? I am trying to track down a copy of this.
Answer
Not Lori Lee

The artist we are refering to is Lori Stanley from Merced, Ca. Her full name is Lorraine Gay Stanley. She was not an author, she was a painter! Sorry!!
Good Luck on your search.
