Anyone know anything about oil painting artist "M.J. Engel"??
Painting states '42'. Not sure if its 19th century or 20th. Many Engels show up as painters. Some 'M Engel', Some 'J Engel', but not 'M.J. Engel'.

Any direction would be greatful

Gene, if you placed a photo of a painting of him it didn't succeed. I assume it's because of the size - which should exceed the 500 pixels.

Indeed many Engels, and many M.J. Engels as well, but unfortunately the M.J. Engels are all connected to some kind of a gene project rather than being a painter.

I will search some more and let you know if I come up with results

Thanks for the kind reply. As Istated there are many 'Engels' as painters, some with a variation of the initials of the name I seek. But there are no 'M.J. Engles' to be found by me. I could only be so lucky this is a 'Jules Engels ' painting, but I dont beleive it is.:/

I have limited knowledge of computer searches, so any assistance I recieve from anyone would be appreciated.
A lead on where to look or a concentrated web search engine, and I'll gladly do the foot work.

Thanks again for you comment, and what a kool and friendly wegsite this is

Thanks again

Well, there are quite some search machines available on the Internet and I am using them. However none of them came up with something (still the same "M.J. Engels" as someone famous in gene projects).

Still I hope to come up with something though by going through individual art sites - auctions etc. etc.

My mystery has been somewaht been solved.

Seem's the painting by 'M.J. Engel' isnt an original after all. It is a masterful reproduction of Thomas Lawrences' "Pinkie". Imean this painting is exact to the micro brush stroke. The painting is dated next to the name of '42'. We may be presumptious to think it 1942, but beleive it to be no earlier.

We are somewhat saddened we did not discover a hidden jewel like we did a month or so ago.

My wife and I we in the local (in a rural town of 10,000 population) antique store, and ran accross a painting of a heavy set older man in a beret. We played 'good cop, bad cop', and haggled on price a bit. We recieved an additional 20% discount, and was delighted to find out ' Raffaele Frigerio ' was a rather well known 19th century Italian painter. his pieces are all over the world. Some of his latest pieces have sold in upward of $13K on ebay. We were giddy our's only cost several hundred dollars. I guess we have seen too many 'antique roadshow' episodes.

Just thought Id share a quick story. Ouor 'Pinkie' painting will be in our possession at the end of the weekend. We love the piece, and still feel it is wrth several hundred dollars to the right eye.
just thought I'd share a story. We still dont know who 'M.J. Engel' is, but he did a nice job non the less.

Thanks

Gene, it's great you got to find out what this painting exactly is! Good detective work, sir

And yes, I agree with you. If you like a painting (or anything else) than 'a name' isn't really that important. It is better to have a painting hanging from your wall that you like than have one you don't like but carries the name of a 'master'

I loved your wife's blog. She's a very talented photographer (you can tell her that from me )

No worries about typos. I'm sure I'm making them as well it's just that usually I don't notice them but that doesn't mean they're not there
