I have reduced the resolution to speed up the download of my web-site in response to popular requests here. You will find a selection of three paintings, over the past few months, at the top. The download time should be half, or a third, what it was before.

At the instigation of Alison Raines and others, I have decide that I will add some pen&ink, pencil and pastel drawings to the site, probably in the next couple of weeks.

Look out for the famously descriptive 'Paintings, drawings and photographs - realist, abstract, impressionist and expressionist' at the top that is apparently not that easy to observe, or understand - even for a trained artist!

Hi Peter;

Peter - maybe you've done this already - but rather than reducing the resolution of the images, have you tried increasing the jpeg compression level? I've found that that is usually the best way to preserve the integrity of an image as much as possible while reducing transfer times. I also noted that your images have to be resampled when they are downloaded in order to fit the space allotted for them; that adds to downloading time. You may want to have your image frame sizes set to match the size of the image, and then use a smaller image on the main page. (If you need any help on this, you can get me via e-mail)

I look forward to your additions, it's interesting work.

Regards,

Thank you very much for this advice! I have tried to reduce them using microsoft photo editor, which is a rather basic tool. I will try your suggestion when I get photoshop loaded up again - it has far more options for export. I have, as you point out, just reduced the frame size, rather than getting the image to fit exactly - it sounds as if it will pay dividends to do this. Maybe I will get round to it this weekend. Thank you very much! (Notwithstanding the discussion I have just had with Alison on the subject of the description 'interesting!) I like that. I suppose that, if you take some of the more extreme individual acts as being performance art, it would be true as well. Having said that, some art is a manifestation of conformity, uniformity and regimentation - which is rather sad. I suppose that one could describe it as kitsch (to avoid it being covered by this) or, alternatively, say that this is just the sort of individual that is being manifested by it.
