Some think that Giorgio Morandi is the greatest Italian painter of the 20th Century, and many others think that he is unsung and underrated.
He was a quite man who lead a quite life, unlike other art greats like Picasso or Dali he was not an extrovert or a loud and brash man, but like his monotone (almost) minimalist still life’s, he lived a quite life in Bologna, where he was born, along with his two sisters and rarely even left the city.
He was inspired by light and space, putting great emphasis on form and composition.
The Metropolitan Museum in New York Closed the Morandi retrospective Yesterday . A blurb from the museum site proves yet again that the man and his paintings were very much alike
He was exceptionally tall, thoughtful, and soft spoken, and notwithstanding his low-key public profile-Morandi agreed to only two published interviews, both toward the end of his life-his paintings came to be known and in demand throughout Europe and North and South America

I wish I could have seen it. Tim Paul however did see it. you can visit his blog to read his impresions of it.
