I am really new to this. How do I find a gallery to show my work? What is the appropriate way to approach them, and what format do I encourage them with; slides, a small canvas, business card with my website address on it, computer prints? Is my stuff even salable? http://geocities.com/meg.. This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Not at the prices your asking! At least not in any market I know of. How do you justify your prices, since by your own admission you are a newby to the game?

Sorry for the bluntness.

There are exceptions to the rule, I know, but they are usually artists who have an exceptional new idea or product or craft that finds instant acceptance in the vast art market. Your work is not in that category. There is nothing unigue about it. If your work is not marketable in your locale, it's not likely to be marketable elsewhere either. So start off locally and become informed on what it is that sells in your area versus what it is you're doing.

I agree, your prices are pretty steep for the market. Your work appears mid -century europe and US but there are galleries that might be interested although the mainstream big ones will consider this work too dated. It has nothing to do with quality, and don't misinterpret those comments to mean that. Getting a gallery is often more about WHO you know and MAKING CONTACTS rather tha submitting slides or having a quality of work. Network and you'll find someone interested in your work too.

find a gallery that you feel is conducive to your style and then ask them how they prefer to view submission (and who to contact).

Ha! I just got frustrated the other day and added a $1000 to all my prices since they have no buying audience. If no collectors see them, what does it matter? I started painting in the last 8 months and I KNOW NOTHING! I received the 'Gallery' suggestion yesterday and NO, I haven't approached any yet. I was hoping to get some positive suggestions about what media to take with me to a gallery....Yes, I have been living in a cave without ANY contact with society or media for three years and I discovered that I NEED to paint and I would just like to sell a piece, or show somewhere. I've not really started looking at other's paintings so I wouldn't know or give a flying F... if my work is 'Unique'. It's MINE and why would anyone else even WANT to paint rainbow bubbles?

I have no idea what your situation is from what you say in the above, and I hesitate to offer further advice for fear you may be an invalid who is incapable of getting out and about.

OTOH, if you are a normally healthy individual, then you need to get out and interact with your local art community if you ever hope to go anywhere with your art work. That seems like such an obvious course of action that it shouldn't even need stating. Flailing about on the internet is NOT conducive to advancing your art, regardless of what that art involves!
