I know I can be a windbag, but I wanted to post the rough draft of things Ive been considering the last week. I worked on my notes on the Modern's millenial show, the Sublime (hoping to learn from what Alison and Erik had taught me, with a second item adding to it based on the politics of Modernism), and a show I almost didn't bother to see but was astonishing

The only problem I have with John is his taste in art hanging in his bedroom - still at least you and I are now showing next to each other. I guess we should do some sort of bonding ritual dance now ......

Indeed?

Haber was astonished by Ingres. Amazing!

What Haber doesn't realize (read his thing on Ingres) is that one doesn't need bullshit theories, Artspeak analysis, philosophical gas, and convoluted ways of saying 'I like it,' when it comes to artists like Ingres.

Why? Because, when skill and craftsmanship reach the heights of Ingres its simply as Haber says, 'astonishing.' No further knowledge necessary although your astonishment might just lead you on.

That's what great art does, even when you just happen to unintentionally 'bother' to look.

Even a second rater like Delacroix couldn't help coming to the same conclusion. Perhaps Haber will eventually bother to visit the next Bouguereau show.

Mani DeLi ...no skill no art
