Hello,

I need assistance in finding the name of this print and/or artist. There is no signature on the print or anything on the back, inside the frame, etc. I know it's probably a common one, but cannot find it anywhere.

Any help would be sincerely appreciated. The photo is at the URL below. Please contact me by email if you can assist.

I had a look and you know what? It could have been mine! It's not though. But it evokes memories. Over the course of my 'career' in the arts I've had people approach me from time to time to paint from some photo they have. In this case it was an almost identical scene of a grandfather and grandson related to the person who owned the photo. Being an artist who takes any source of income that comes my way, I agreed to execute the 'reproduction' of the photo - but one always wonders why the person with the photo thinks a painting is any more accurate than an enlargement would be. I suppose it's the idea that the painting has some value that a photograph doesn't. These are NOT questions I put to the customer however.

I suppose many in who check this ng out have had similar requests. The answer to your question must come from looking at what treatment you gave the subject. Perhaps a slight rearrangement of the objects to make a pleasing pattern, maybe a substitution of colour or tone. Maybe some demonstration of skill with a brush. The buyer knows there are colour photo copiers, so a perfect copy is not what is required, although the final picture needs to contain the essence of the photo. I believe these requests show a latent aesthetic and artistic judgement within. N.H
