Everyone -

Please visit my updated website, http://www.danfoxart.com. There is a group of new art, and everything is more accessible and easier to read. Comments welcome.

If you'll be in the Boston area in January, come to the opening of my solo painting show at Space 12 Gallery. The opening is Friday, January 12, from 6 - 9 pm. The show will be up from January 5 to February 2. Details on my website, or see the January Gallery Guide.

Hi Dan;

That's good work, and I appreciate the darker backgrounds as it brings out your colour better. You seem to be opening up alot in your work plus taking some new directions (though the only previous work I new was in Gallery 1, so I may be off in that assessment). My eye keeps coming back to El Jebha 10 in particular, it's wonderfully strong. (I do miss your old theory page; it was by far and away the most sensible one I'd seen in ages

Going to have showing in late May?

Cheers;

Chris

PS - I do agree with Erik on what seems like slow loading on the thumbnails, but it wasn't too bad here.

Dan,

First response: Formidable! C'est tres tres beaux!

Looks like Wendy got the orientation right in Gallery I.

There is so much work there, I'll have to re-visit again and again. About the site: it loaded okay here. Your former site had a sample of your work on the home page, and I missed that here.

later,

groove on...

Also Dan, some mention of your favourite painters? Twombly, Giacometti for example.

Thanks, Chris.

(I do miss your

Yeah, I may have to bring it back. See my post to Erik.

I'm not sure yet. What city did you have in mind? Is your daughter graduating, meaning you'll be in Boston? If so, let's get together in any event.

Yes, I'm looking into that. Thanks for the feedback!

to download here - my computer is probably faster than most but our household telephone lines are only set to deal with modems of 33K. I would imagine most people who did not have the capacity would abandon the downloading, especially when one is paying for the telephone call. It would be a shame not to get international viewers because of this.

Anyway, I persisted. There has been quite a change since last years work which I instantly likened to my favourite Spanish artist. The abandoning of colour and the introduction of the rather clumsy Kline motif in the works on paper is the most obvious change. Is that a Rothko style drawing I see there too ? It is difficult to look at the white paintings digitally - I would imagine the surface texture to play a major part of the experience and viewing art on such a dense black background makes it difficult. Neutral backgrounds are important of course, a colour juxtaposed against your paintings can completely change their appearance - and not always for the better. One wouldn't want to see the work on black walls in a gallery but one might like to see them with a black frame around them. There is still the Twombly association I see that was present in the work you showed a few months ago. In fact there is a stylistic reference to several major artists in all of the works. That's pretty interesting - assuming it is a deliberate intent of yours, and one would assume this to be. The appropriation of artistic styles and imitation seems to be cropping up throughout this *post modern* world. Its an important one too, so it seems, but I personally would hate to have my work so deliberately linked to another artist's style ... then again, I am a modernist through and through. Maybe Picasso meant that we should inherit the genes but not impersonate the parents ?

I prefer the works that you posted last year - they seem to be more sensual and feeling. Perhaps that is the power of colour in a painting. These new ones, for me, are too *deliberate* and even a little contrived.

Good luck with the show, I am sure you will do very well.

Alison

Yep, she's graduating; so I'll be down in Boston for the weekend (around the end of May.). I'll have my son in tow (so that sort of limits my movement) but I would like to see your work, if that's possible (I'll be glad to stand you a round in exchange..). I let you know more precisely sometime in the spring...

Here's a question you (or someone else reading this) might know the answer to - any recommendations re. hotels in the Brookline area? Or are they all really pricey?

Cheers;

Hmm, gathering personal information through pretense and then using it to hurt. That sounds a lot like what I've heard about Mattison.

Today's lesson for the logic impaired (i.e., 'artists': No one can be a *former* veteran. It isn't a condition that wears off or expires.

Not for 'libel per se', which only requires the statements to be published. The person filing for defamation need not even prove damages. Furthermore, every piece of info supplied about her target that isn't actually on his own web page is a possible element in an 'invasion of privacy' action.

That means I would have a major case also sgainst CLB and Bob o Bob since they had nerve enough more than once to try and defame me in public, in this group and int the art groups and also that other man I never met from SJ with the new wife house car and play sax along with Dan and Karen and a couple others. We can also include their companies too because they are all posting from their company machines.

There is nothing more that Berg would love than to testify against you all and I see he too would have a case.

Thanks for the advice.
