Sounds like it was enjoyable, though too bad about the other artist.Can't win 'em all, I guess!
That's funny about the lavender bus shelters - Newfoundlanders have - or at least had - a passion for bright colour, especially on their buildings; at one time it wasn't unusual to see houses with each clapboard painted in different colours. And thanks for the info re. the film, I'll have to see if I can get a copy - I remember when Baird bought out the building & changed it from the town's only restaurant (great fish & chips) and local hangout for kids (pinball & music downstairs) into an artists residency studio; it didn't get a very warm reception from the local kids, that's for sure! sort of a typical 'town and gown' scene...
Anyway, it is a spectacular location. We had moose wandering around the back yard; could catch brook trout about 100 feet behind the house, once saw a pod of about 20 humpbacks come right into the cove, chasing capelin to within a few meters of the cliffs, and lots of icebergs.
Did things work out ok with Jim Baird? I ask because I'm always mentioning it to people who are looking for someplace different to work for a bit - for those who are interested, I think the website for the place is
http://www.pouchcove.org . But I know that he can be a bit of a, err, character
Cheers;
Chris
